Matakichi Ito is a drunken old man that sometimes teaches Hanai. He also contributes largely to Hanai's success during the athletic meet. He appears during two of the episodes in season one and another episode in season two, poking fun at Mikoto Suo's breasts and the fact that she is friends with him. He has a granddaughter who he often does not recognize, showing up when he is near Hanai.
